IBM’s Watson Computer vs Jeopardy Champions

IBM is pitting its supercomputer, Watson, against two intellectual giants on the hit show Jeopardy!

The Watson computer system is different than anything else you have seen due to the fact that its knowledge is as self contained as any single human being. Watson’s ability to understand the meaning and context of human language, and rapidly process information to find precise answers to complex questions, holds enormous potential to transform how computers help people accomplish tasks in business and their personal lives.

Jeopardy! is aired locally from 7:00 to 7:30 pm on local channels.

Cloud Computing: Ready for Prime Time or Hype?

Most IT professionals would have heard the buzz on cloud computing! But is it just a lot of hype, or is it based on reality and large scale adoption. What exactly is cloud computing? There is no common definition but most people would define it as a pool of shared hardware and other computing resources that can be provisioned and made available over a public or private network. The consuming organization pays for those resources based on their level and amount of utilization. Some distinct advantages for the consuming organization is the resiliency, scalability, low maintenance overhead of the infrastructure and a cost effective solution for procuring it when needed. However, there are concerns around security, bandwidth limitations, lack of standards and susceptibility to network outages.

What is your own opinion on cloud computing? What are you seeing that organizations are doing or considering?
