Artech NJ’s Bowling Night

On June 30th, Artech NJ had its First Annual Bowling Tournament. With nearly 30 bowlers participating, it was a highly competitive and exciting event. Each bowler was placed in a team of 3 where a tune-up game was played to determine the rankings. Then the true tournament was set to begin with single elimination games. Two teams would battle over 10 frames; the team with the highest overall score would advance to the next round while the loser was sent packing. After a few extremely close and tiring games the finals were set between “I Can’t Believe it’s Not Gutter” and “Mavericks”. The Mavericks were the top seed relaxing before the finals while I Can’t Believe it’s Not Gutter had to endure a grueling game in the semifinals. The evenly matched teams were matching strikes throughout the game and it came down to the wire gaining victory by less than 10 pins. As a result, they were more than prepared to handle the challenge facing them. Both teams were tired and struggling throughout the finals, but it was I Can’t Believe it’s Not Gutter that persevered and won it all with a total score of 410 to the Mavericks 346.

Thank you to all that participated in Artech’s Bowling Tournament, it was a great success! Congratulations to the winning team, I Can’t Believe it’s Not Gutter, the 2011 Artech Bowling Champs!

Edge Relays for Life

On June 4th and 5th, the Capital Region of Artech, EDGE Professional Services, participated in the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life in Rockville, Maryland. Relay for Life is an overnight event designed to bring communities together to fight a common enemy – cancer. Teams of participants log laps around a track continuously from early afternoon through the wee hours of the following morning. The two major highlights of the Relay are the Survivors’ Lap, which is a tribute to the cancer survivors and caregivers, and the Luminaria Ceremony, which honors those who lost the battle to the relentless disease as well as those continuing the fight.

Cancer is so prevalent that all of us know someone who has fallen victim to the disease. At Relay, family and friends, co-workers and classmates come together to continue to fight back in their honor. The EDGE office put forth a total team effort with almost 100% staff participation, two of which were there for the entire 20 hours. For the second year in a row, EDGE was the highest fundraising team at the event, raising over $14,000 to date for the American Cancer Society. We would like to thank all of those that supported us in this endeavor.

Every step taken at the Relay, every dollar raised, brings us one step closer to the cure. Together, we can work toward a cancer-free future.
